GUILTY PLEASURE DE JOUR

BATTLESTAR GALLATICA (AGAIN)

Just as good, if not better, the second time around. This Portlandia clips explains it all. WATCH

MY APOLOGIES TO THE BREAKFAST CLUB...

I'm a nerd, a philosopher, an explorer, a foodie, a filmie, a west coast boy turned Brooklynite, a small town country boy turned urbanite, a classic Gemini, a designer, an artist, I try to be kind to mother earth, because she is kind to me, and a cat lover amongst other things. I guess if I had to define it in a few words I would say that I’m a collector of experiences.

When I look back on the last 30 years of my life, I would have to say that my experiences are the biggest definer of who I am, I’ve seen many things, known many people and lived in many places that have all left little bits and pieces behind in my pysche that have help developed who I am, not only as a person but as a designer.

Back when I was in school, an instructor of mine told me that if you didn’t learn something from every project your not trying hard enough. This work philiosophy has sorta seeped into a life philosophy since that moment. I try to learn something from everything I do and 50 years from now when I’m old and grey... well bald probably; I hope I’m still experiencing new things and learning from them.

EXPERIENCE

Over the last 5 years or so I’ve meant some very nice people and companies that agreed to pay me real money in return for my ideas and services. These people and companies are, but not limited to:

Callaway Digital Arts

At CDA, I played a significant leadership role in the conception and creation of five iOS app titles. All of which ascended to #1 in the Book category of the App Store, including Angelina Ballerina’s New Teacher, Sesame Street’s The Monster at the End of the Book and The Great Cookie Thief. My responsibilities included leading, developing and maintaining the art direction and app architecture of a project while working closely with a team of producers, designers, animators and developers to create unique and engaging user experiences.

Happy Studios

At Happy, I was given the task of establishing the brand foundations for this iOS  development start-up. My responsibilities included concepting the look and feel of the brand, art directing the execution of the direction as well as designing a number of multidisciplinary pieces for the company. Additional responsibilities included managing vendors and third-party talent.

The O Group

While my tenure at The O Group was technically on a freelance basis. The 5-6 months that I was employed as a designer there made it seem like I was a true member of the team. Some notable client accounts that I was a part of during my stay at The O Group included Golfnow.com, Lacoste, Belvedere Vodka, Rémy Martin and Ferragamo.

3rd Edge Communications

Starting as a Junior Designer, this is where I began learning the ropes of agency life and over a three year span I worked my way to a Senior Designer title, where I was responsible for many things including the conception and execution of design solutions to their completion. They even trusted me enough to mentor and art direct the junior designers that were on staff... Awesome!

Freelance Work

I also have gathered a rather nice collection of freelance gigs where I learned many things about being a designer both from the creative end and the business end. Some of my past clients have been LucasArts where I had the joy of working projects for two of my childhood obsessions; StarWars and Indiana Jones; Jeff Fassnacht Design where I worked on projects for Actual Films, O’Reilly Publishing and Breakthrough Collaborative amongst others. Some of my independant clients include BAR Bakery, Highlife Music, RGH Lighting, Scheimpflug Digital and Element Tattoo.

Independent Projects

When I not working on client work, I’m usually working on the development of 00one, where I create and sell my personal creative work which include letterpress prints screen-prints and paintings.

EDUCATION

I have a AA and a BFA in Graphic Design, from the Art Institute of Seattle and The Academy of Art San Francisco... and I have the bills to prove it.

TECHNICAL ABILITIES

I have production experience in both the real world and the digital world. I know how to screen print and letterpress. My comping skills are pretty top-notch when I have the right tools. I have knowledge in many programs, to varying degrees, that help me execute my ideas, these programs include of course the Adobe Suite. Particularly Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. I have some experience in Dreamweaver, HTML and CSS. UI and UX is also a part of my repertoire. Anything else I may need I am willing and able to learn, because learning is cool. I’m pretty good at cooking to boot.
